Kodex is now an official partner of the Illicit Virtual Asset Notification (IVAN) public-private partnership. It's a natural step for us, and it's worth explaining why.

Illicit money moves quickly through virtual assets. The people chasing it, investigators in government and the compliance and intelligence teams inside companies, often hold different halves of the same picture. One side sees a wallet tied to a case. The other sees the activity running across its platform. Neither can act fast on what the other knows, because there has never been a trusted, structured way to share it. That gap is where ransomware operators and fraud networks live.

IVAN exists to close that gap. It's a first-of-its-kind effort that brings government and industry together to identify and disrupt the use of virtual assets in illicit activity, and to share what each side sees in a way both can trust. The partnership is stewarded by MITRE as its trusted third party, and it reflects a whole-of-government collaboration rather than the priorities of any single agency. Members announced their involvement in a press release in October 2024.

Joining is a natural extension of what Kodex already does. Kodex is the network where law enforcement data requests get handled the way they should: agencies send legally valid requests, companies verify who is really asking, and both sides keep an accountable record of what happened. The hard part has never been the data. It's the trust between the two sides, and the structure to act on it quickly. That's the same problem IVAN is solving, on one of the highest-stakes fronts there is.

"I spent years on the other side of this problem, watching investigations stall because there was no trusted way for government and industry to share what each side already knew," said Matt Donahue, founder and CEO of Kodex. "IVAN is the kind of collaboration that should have existed a long time ago. Kodex was built to make this work, and we intend to do our part."

Trust between government and industry isn't a nice-to-have in this category. It's the thing that decides whether a lead becomes a case. That's the work IVAN is built for, and it's the work Kodex was built for too.
